A Message From The Executive Director — HSWA’s Lead Levels

The Hampton Shaler Water Authority recently completed its 2016 mandatory EPA lead sampling program.  The Authority was required to sample 30 tier one sites for lead.  A tier one site is a dwelling that was built between 1983–1988 and possesses lead solder joints on its plumbing or a dwelling that has a lead water service line.  The Authority took 15 samples from homes built from 1983 to 1988 and 15 samples from homes with lead water service lines.  The results were as follows:

The EPA action limit is 15 parts per billion (PPB) at the 90th percentile sample.  Hampton Shaler Water Authority’s 90th percentile sample was 2 parts per billion which is well below the action level.

In addition to our 30 mandatory compliance samples, the EPA asked the Authority to perform lead monitoring in a small portion of water service area that is supplied directly from the City of Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority located in O’Hara Township.  The results of those samples are as follows:
