Installation of Pressure-Reducing Valve Vault on Parker Street

Bottom section of the two-piece vault installed on Parker Street.

In May 2017, HSWA will utilize a contractor to replace 3800 LF of aged pipe with new 8″ PVC pipe.  As part of the project, we will connect the systems in Shaler Township on Parker into the Etna Borough system on Parker.

Because of the high differences in pressure zones, a pressure-reducing valve vault was designed by W.C. Weil to safely convert the pressures.  On Tuesday, February 28th, HSWA took delivery of the pre-plumbed vault from A.C. Miller.

This project will allow us to have a second feed into Etna Borough.  It gives us redundancy if a problem occurs in the other feed by the James Street tank.

The vault is located close to the border of Shaler and Etna on a vacant piece of property recently purchased by the Authority.

We still need to run power to the vault for the telemetry that will be installed inside.  This telemetry will allow the valves in the vault to be controlled remotely from our Water Treatment Plant via our SCADA system.
